LIFTING OF RESTRICTIONS STATEMENT BY CONTROLLER Advice that/ the reduced lighting restrictions which were still required in certain areas of Auckland and Wellington for the protection of shipping would be limited in. the meantime to those ports, and that -it would not be necessary to introduce similar restrictions at any other port or inland town in New Zealand, received from the Director of Civil Defence, Mr J. -S. Hunter, by the Ohinemuri County Council at its monthly meeting on Wednesday. If any further restrictions were necessary, added Mr Hunter, it was * proposed that this would be effected by means of a blackout, and it was therefore desired that local authorities that had not already arranged for the removal of the shields on street lights should take steps to revert to the normal standards of lighting. In moving that the Thames Valley Electric Power Board 'be asked to remove Any remaining shields, the chairman, Mr W. Marshall, said local bodies had not felt inclined to bear the expense of removing and replacing shades from time to time, but in view of the latest pronouncement removal could be carried out. It was to be hoped that the war position would not deteriorate to the extent that a complete blackout would be necessary. The motipn was carried.
