“PLAIN TALKING”

HEALTH INSPECTOR ACTS DRAINAGE TO COTTAGES NUISANCE AT NGATEA FACTORY Complaining that more than two months had elapsed since he first wrote to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company regarding the unsatisfactory condition of the drainage of the cottages at the Ngatea factory the Sanitary Inspector, Mr T. W. Adams forwarded to Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council a copy of a recent letter he had sent to the company architect in Hamilton. The inspector’s letter’ to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s architect read as under: — “With reference to previous correspondence regarding the drainage at the cottages at your Ngatea factory I have to advise that the work in this connection has not yet commenced.

“Following receipt of your letter of February 19 this matter was discussed with the engineer of the Public Works Department, Paeroa, and I understand that although a report with suggestions fol’ the abatement of the nuisance was-being fo-rwarded to you, the department considered that the responsibility of providing drainage rested with the New Zealand Co-op-erative Dairy Company Ltd., as owners of the premises and that no further action was being taken. “More than two. months has elapsed since my first notice and I must now ask you for your assurance that the work will be put in hand immediately. You must realise that conditions are very unsatisfactory and that the nuisance should be abated as soon as ■possible. “If the work is not completed within a reasonable time I will be compelled to make recommendations for a closing order under Section 40 of the Health Act, 1940.” Mr J. W. Neate: 'Plain talking.
