THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is Incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY. FRIDAY. "Public Service.” FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1943 POPPY DAY APPEAL

That the Poppy Day appeal in Paeroa and on the Hauraki Plains this year has set a record in sales is very gratifying indeed. Poppy Day is the occasion of the New Zealand Returned Services' Association’s annual appeal to the public for funds to enable it to carry on, as so well in the past, its very valuable work on behalf of men of the services who have fought for their country in this and the last war. It should hardly be necessary to endorse the merits of the appeal. Nearly every citizen, directly ‘or indirectly, has a personal concern for the welfare of our returned men. There are few families throughout the country whom the past or present war has not touched in some way, who have not been linked intimately with the armed forces. The R.S.A. is the citadel of the rights and privileges of the returned men and with its singleness of purpose throughout the years since it came into being, its efforts on their behalf, has earned the esteem and confidence of the public.
