NO MUNICIPAL ELECTION # ONLY EIGHT NOMINATIONS PRODUCTION ON WAIHI PLAINS (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of April 19, 1923) There will be no municipal elections in Paeroa this year. Mr W. Marshall has been elect- . ed unopposed as Mayor, and only eight nominations have been received for the eight seats on the council. Mr D. Leach did not seek re-election, but Mr H. M. Shand filled the vacancy. Mr ■P. E. Brenan was elected unopposed for the . represenative on the Thames Hospital Board, and Mr F. E. Flatt to the seat on the Thames Valley Electric Power Board.

An interesting return has been prepared by the local branch of the New Zealand Dairy Co. pertaining to the dairying on the Waihi Plains. During the flush months, December, January and February, a total of 68,2891 b. of butterfat was railed to the Paeroa factory. This is a-very considerable increase on last year’s figures. It has been proved, beyond doubt, that the Waihi Plains are eminently suitable for dairy- ' ing, despite the adverse comments that have often been passed as to the productivity of the land in this area. The figures supplied indicate in no small degree what the land will produce 'by judicious farming combined with hard work and optimism.
