SOCIAL SEASON OPENS
DESTROYED A HEIFER
SHOT AT KARANGAHAKE __ .. I
(From the Ohinemuri Gazette of April 19, 1903) The opening of the social season promises to be a brilliant affair. Mrs J. Clarkin and her committee are working most energetically and all classes of the community are helping to make the event most enjoyable for young and old. W music will be supplied by our local trio, . Miss Pugh (violin), Miss Oapill (piano), and Mr Mettam (cornet). The progressive euchre tournament will be under the charge of the Mi sses Shaw and Delany on the evening of the social, April 30th. At the Paeroa ' Police Court yesterday, before Messrs Colclough and A. J. Thorp, J’s.P., two respectable-looking lads were charged with destroying a heifer by shooting it at Karangahake. Mr Porritt appeared for the owner of the animal (Mr E. Bain), and Mr Moresby for the defence. As the absurd rule of the Court now is, the two justices hiust either have dismissed the case or committed the lads L for trial, having no summary jurisdiction. They, accordingly remanded, the lads until the 24th, when the case will come before the S.M.
