SUPREME SACRIFICE PAID DEATH OF PAEROA SOLDIERS References to the men from Paeroa. who had paid the supreme sserifice in the present action in Tunisia was made by the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council when the acting-town clerk was instructed to convey the council’s sympathy to the relatives.

The Mayor expressed the deep regret felt by the people in Paeroa at the loss of several Paeroa men serving overseas with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. These were, he said, Pte. W. W. Brocklebank, Pte A. Yardley, Pte. G. Mitchell and Pte. L. R. Swale. All these young men, said the Mayor, had ventured forth with the desire to serve their country.

Acords to express our admiration of these men who have been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice and to express the sympathy we feel with the relatives left behind,” added the Mayor.

Adams who had been reported as seriously wounded, expressing the hope that word would soon be received advising that he had fully recovered to health.
