PRICES TOO HIGH

DRAIN CLEANING CONTRACTS WAGES MORE SATISFACTORY That generally speaking contract prices for drain cleaning on the Hauraki Plains are too high and that in most cases a better job at a lower cost could be achieved with men on wages was the opinion expressed by members of the Hauraki United Drainage Board at the April meeting held at Turua last Thursday. Discussion arose on this matter when it was reported that the cost of cleaning the Piako roadside drain fronj Turua to Hill’s corner had been £6 less than last year, the job being done on wages. Members agreed that a first-class job had been done.

Other instances of work done on wages at si lower cost than contract were given members contending that wages men usually did a better job than contract cleaners.
