BOWLERS VISIT MATAMATA PAEROA TEAM BEATEN PLEASANT NGATEA EVENING (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of April 12, 1923) The team that represented the local bowling club at Matamata in the challenge match for the Goldfields Stars on Saturday (Messrs F. Pivott, G. H. Taylor, F. J. Wells and J. Pinder, skip), was unsuccessful in its efforts to

bring back the coveted trophies to Paeroa. The scores were: Matamata 18, Paeroa 14. Although beaten, the scores do not give any indication as to the good fight put up by the local team. A very pleasant evening was spent at Ngatea on Friday last, the occasion being an entertainment and dance to. raise funds for the local hall.- After a splendid picture programme, items were contributed by members of the British Isles Club, Auckland, and the two Bobs, amateurs of Ngatea. Among the artists worthy of mention were Messrs E. Scott-Clarke, elocutionist, J. Smithson, triple-voiced vocalist, J. Williams and W. D. Mellor, soloists, and H. Ware, banjo soloist. The .concluding item of the

concert programme was a highly amusing sketch. > The whole ‘.programme was very much appreciated and the hope has been expresesd that the British Isles Club Concert (Party will visit Ngatea again in the near future. After the concert the floor was cleared, and dancing was engaged in till an early hour.
