DRY MARCH ON PLAINS HAURAKI SPORTS CLUB ANNUAL PICNIC AT TURUA (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of April 9, 1923.) The rainfall on- the Hauraki (Plains for the month of ""March, as recorded by the gauge at the Lands Drainage Office, Kerepeehi, was the lowest for the month of March since the record was commenced ten years ago. A total of 1.72 in. fell in six days during the period from the 15th. to the ,25th. ' The record shows that .82 in. of 'rain fell just prior to the Kerepeehi sports. f
The annual picnic given by the
Hauraki Sports Club to their
lady friends was held, in the Recreation Grounds, Tiirua, on Saturday last. The weather was ideal and the ground was in good condition and showed great improvement since it was clearest and levelled. While the biggest part of the programme was occu-
pied by children’s events, great interest was manifested in those for the adults. A unique event, and one that has probably never before been witnessed in New Zealand, was the ladies’ woodchopping competition. This was well contested, and great ability was shown, the result being as follows: Mrs Wallace 1, Mrs Williams 2, Mrs Lord 3.
