CORRESPONDENCE

POPPY DAY NEXT FRIDAY

(To The Editor)

Sir—Poppy Day will be observed this year on Friday next, April 16. As the public have always most generously supported this one R.S.A. appeal there is no need for me to ask for anything but continued support.

i would like to explain, however, what the Poppy Fund is. , All money collected in this district is spent in the district. It is for the benefit of ex-servicemen and/or dependents in cases of sickness. Ex-servicemen are men from all wars, i.e., South Africa, Great War and the present war. Already we have assisted eSc-service-men returned from the Middle East and the Islands. As Paeroa ex-servicemen occasionally enter Thames hospital as patients, the 1 Thames R.S.A. have a splendid ladies’ committee who visit these patients and present them l with such comforts that the authorities do not supply. This association contributes from the Poppy Fund to the Thames R.S.A. who then expend the money on the Paeroa ex-servicemen through its ladies’ committee. —I am, etc., J- M. CRAIG, Hon. Secretary, Paeroa-Hauraki R.S.A. 8/4/43.
