FAREWELL DANCE

FUNCTION AT WHITIANGA AN ENJOYABLE EVENING An enjoyable and very successful dance was held in the Public Hall, Mercury Bay, on Saturday evening, March 27, when about 140 1 dancers gathered together under the M.C., Mr Hemmings, for the purpose of dancing farewell to several members of the “Mounteds” who are leaving the district. '

Mrs Rose supplied the music on her piano-accordion and the extras were given by the enthusiastic rhythm specialists, those lads who sing together so harmoniously to the accompaniment of their ukes, guitar and accordion. Mr Hemmings’ castanets always add that extra spark to dancing and popular numbers included “Deep In The Heart of Texas.”

The winners of the Monte Carlo were Mrs J. Tucker and Mrs Bronlund.

A delightful supper was served by the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee and the dishes of savouries were very much appreciated by the many dancers.

The dance was held as a final and informal wind up for the several “Mounteds” who are going away, and the crowded hall expressed tile feeling of the dancers who for a long time now have looked to thfe good fellowship of the Mounteds and the congeniality in transforming a bunk house into a dance hall, for Saturday night entertainment. Dancing cohtinued until mid-night.
