NETHERTON FAREWELL
L./CPL. HAROLD HONOURED
PRESENTATION FROM DISTRICT
A farewell dance was held recently in the Netherton Hall to honour Lance-Corporal E. W. Harold, there being a large attendance of residents and friends from surrounding districts. The music was supplied by Miss L. Carter and Mr C. Townshend acted as M.C.
Winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Mrs H. Fraser and Mrs Laurent. After a dainty supper had been served Mr J. A. Reid, on behalf of the Netherton Patriotic Committee, presented Lance-Corporal Harold with a wallet, wishing him the 'best of luck, Godspeed and a safe return. Miss ; M. Sarjant made a presentation of a writing case with best wishes from members of the Loyal Netherton Lodge.
Mrs Manderson, on behalf of the Netherton Women’s Institute, presented the guest of the evening with a parcel of woollen comforts. Musical honours were then accorded.
In reply, Lance-Corporal Harold sincerely thanked the speakers and everyone present for the gifts and their good wishes. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.” Among those present were: Mesdames E. W. Harold, C. Stembridge, J. Bourne, A. Grey, H. Fraser, A.
