WELCOMED HOME
PRIVATE EDDIE JOHNSON GATHERING OF FRIENDS FUNCTION AT NETHERTON Friends and relatives assembled at the home of Mr J.IH. J. Johnson, Captain Cook road, Netherton, on Wednesday evening to welcome home his son, Pte. Eddie Johnson, first soldier of that district to return from this war, after two years eight months’ service overseas.
Community singing and dancing were thoroughly enjoyed during the evening’, the music being supplied by Mrs 1 R. Fisher and Mr C. Johnson (accordeon). Songs and dances rendered, by a Maori company were much appreciated. Among those present were: Mesdames A. Nicol, C. Reid, B. Johnson, A. McNeice, M. Oilington, W. Quayle, E. R. Johnson, E. Fisher, R. Laverick, G. Laverick, E. Williams, R. Fisher, Digger, N. Fisher, E. Goofery (Thames). Misses M. Fulton (Paeroa), M. McKain, D. Beasley (Paeroa), T. O. Mita (Paeroa), M. Dettar (Paeroa), M. Watt, M. Manene, Thompson, M. Reid, M. Dilar, V. Mita ,Paeroa), E. J. Williams.
Supper was served and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close at an early hour.
