butterfat production SPELL OF DRY WEATHER FIGURES FROM HERD-TESTING The steady drop in butterfat production following the prolonged spell of dry weather ex- ■ perienced this autumn is reflected in the returns of the Auckland Herd Improvement Association for February. In that month the association tested 74,031 cows, the average yield being 5221 b. milk and 26.71 b. fat. In the corresponding month last year 99,826 cows were handled, the production averaging 5641 b. milk and 28.31 b. fat. The Matiere-Ohura area showed the best return last month, the 652 cows comprising it giving an average yield of 6701 b. milk and 361 b. fat. The best herd was in the Taumarunui-Owhango group, 33 cows averaging 481 b. fat. Local averages were: — ' Matatoki-Hikutaia. —13 herds, 537 cows, 5881ib. milk, 5.05 test, 301 b. fat. Netherton. —12, 701, 542, 4.87, 26. Paeroa. —8, 474, 493, 5.21, 26. Waihi. —26, 1442, 553, 5.10, 28. Waitakaruru-Patetonga. —27, 1527, 521, 4.79, 25.
