THAMES JOCKEY CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD PRESIDENT’S REVIEW OF YEAR The annual meeting of the Thames Jockey 'Club was held on Thursday evening in the club’s rooms, Pollen street, Thames, when the president, Mr W. Bongard, presented the following report:—
“Herewith I submit a- brief report of the operations of the club, together with a statement of accounts and bal-ance-sheet as prepared by the secretary. “War regulations have reduced our race meetings to a one-day meeting each year, and this eventuated with our steeplechase meeting at Parawai in August, 1941.
“Early in January, 1942, the military authorities took over our racecourse as a training camp, and our use of the property for racing, training and farming has necessarily been greatly interfered with. These conditions are responsible for the reduced revenue returns disclosed in the statement of accounts for the year. “I regret to report the passing of Mr J. Twohill, Mr A. Steedman and Mr J. McCormick. These deceased gentlemen held for many years responsible positions in the club, ani the services rendered by them will remain fresh in our memories for a long time to come. Our sympathy has been conveyed to the near relatives in their loss.
“In accordance with the club s rules, Messrs Adams, Baker, Bongard and Coakley retire from the committee and have been re-nominated. Two vacancies, the appointment of which will be for a two-year period, and one vacancy, for a one-year period, will require to be filled.”
