PRESENTATIONS.

SCHOOLTEACHER FAREWELLED. MISS HAZEL E. TAYLOR, B.A. On Friday last Miss Hazel E. Taylor, 8.A., was farewelled from the Paeroa District High School. In the morning a surprise assembly of the high school pupils and staff most enthusiastically greeted their departing teacher. Mr G. H. Taylor and Mr E. G. Preston both found difficulty in finding words to express their appreciation of the work of Miss Taylor during the last five years. This sentiment was joined by the volleys of applause and cheering when Miss Taylor was presented with a splendid manicure set on behalf of the pupils. Later in the day, at a special morning tea function, the staff and Mrs G. H. Taylor presented Miss Taylor with an attache case. A black kewpie mascot standing about ten inches high was also handed over and best wishes for a successful career in the Islands of the Pacific were expressed. The headmaster, in making the presentations, said it was not a pleasure to have to say farewell to a teacher who had put in such good and consistent work for the school as had Miss Taylor. He commented on the fact that Miss Taylor had always maintained a bright and cheerful disposition. Mr Preston in a few words attributed much of the success of the upper forms of the high school to the good grounding given by Miss Taylor in the lower forms. Miss Taylor leaves this week for a holiday at Suva, and after returning therefrom will proceed on or about February 11 to take up her appointment in the Levuka Public School, Fiji. FUNCTION AT NETHERTON. MISS LANE FAREWELLED. Joy and sadness were mingled at Netherton on Friday last, when the people of the district honoured Miss L. N. Lane, of the local school teaching staff, who was leaving the district and will be married in the very near future. At ithe school during the afternoon the pupils assembled while Miss Veda Harold expressed to Miss Lane the love and respect in which she was held by all the school, arid asked her to accept a clock and a nut bowl as a token of this and as a reminder of their good wishes for a life of happiness and prosperity. During the evening Miss Lane was the guest of the residents of the district at a dance in the local hall. Speaking after supper, Mr P. Harold, chairman of the School Committee, while making a presentation of a teaset to Miss Lane, said that during the two years she had been assistant at the school she had so endeared herself to everyone, and they were really sorry she was leaving them and would be well satisfied if her successor was but half as good. Mr T. D. Rice, headmaster, also spoke, and said that he had pleasure in testifying to the yeoman service given by Miss Lane. He was expressing the feelings of everyone in wishing her success and prosperity. Replying on Miss Lane’s behalf, Mr R. C. Abel thanked the people for their good wishes and their handsome presents. Miss Lane had asked him to say that the two years she had spent in Netherton had been the happiest period in her life, and that in leaving she was parting with many very warm friends. She had been very adverse to accepting a country school, but having experienced country life she did not now want to leave it. The people of Netherton had been very good. Her relations with the headmaster and the school committee had always been harmonious, and her boarding accommodation had been ideal. Had she searched the world over it was hardly •likely that she would have found a truer friend than Mrs Johnson.'
