To relieve the pain caused by lumbago, try a large square of new flannel dipped -in equal parts of butter, turpentine, and kerosene melted together, wrung out gently, and placed on the small of the back while hot. Tie on with tapes round the waist. Wear flannel continually, changing alternately with another square daily. This will drive the trouble away and give great comfort. An enamel funnel kept for the purpose simplifies the emptying of salt, pepper, etc., into small-mouthed containers.
