LABOUR PARTY.
THE KEREPEEHI BRANCH. MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETING. The monthly mbeting of the Kerepeehi branch of the N.Z. Labour Party was held last evening, Mr J. G. Anderson presiding over a good attendance of members. Resignations. As they were leaving the district in the near future, the president and vicepresident tendered their resignations. These were accepted with regret, and Mr D. Hill was elected president and Mr W. Booth vice-president. Messrs W. Tate and D. Blythe were appointed to fill the vacancies thus created in the executive committee. The retiring president, Mr J. G. Anderson, expressed his regret at having to leave the branch. The work had been interesting and instructive, and he hoped that it would continue. In returning thanks for his appointment Mr Hill said that if the branch did not progress in the future it would not be for want of activity on his part. Future Activity. It was agreed that in the event of a member not coming forward with a paper to read at the next social meeting a “question box” evening be held. Every member would write a question on paper, which would be placed in a hat and drawn. Every member present would thus be encouraged to give a short reply. A Library. The question of establishing a branch library was further discussed, but on account of the absence of the member who was its advocate ana knew most of the running of such institutions, no decision was reached, the matter being deferred to a later meeting. Thanks. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs J. Murdock for the use of their residence for committee meetings. Fighting Fund Levy. With a view to altering the method of collecting the monthly voluntary contributions t o the Party’s fighting fund, notice was given of intention to rescind a previous decision. The “Worker.” The opinion that the “N.Z. Worker was rather strong “meat” to place.in the hands of farmers who were instinctively opposed to the Labour platform by reason of lack of knowledge of its principles was expressed by a member, and it was suggested that the editor should be communicated with and urged to take into consideration the fact that good would be done by toning down his paper and making it instructive and attractive to farmers.
