The Shopping Centre of Paeroa.
What Our Business People Have to Offer.
The sure but steady growth Paeroa is. making has brought with it better shopping facilities for the Public. It is, however, not Paeroa alone that has moved, but the big districts surrounding the town have undergone development. Land has been cleared and sown ; swamps have been drained and turned into rich pasture ; roads have been made, and river bridges ; subdivision of large holdings have been made, and' now carry hundreds of families, whereas a few years ago these tracts were held by a comparative few. The advance of the dairying industry has spread prosperity throughout the land, and when one considers that all these vast improvements are the results of but a comparatively few years it is surely a monumental record. Even the transformation of the town of Paeroa during the last four years is recognised as wonderful. The municipal authority has set a standard in its work of road-making, and in its efforts to advance the town it has been firmly supported by the private enterprise of the citizens, whose faith in the future of Paeroa, and, indeed, the district itself, is proven by the number of substantial edifices that have been erected in the business quarter, and also by the many charming and comfortable homes that adorn the immediate neighbourhood. It is this faith in the present and the future that is unconquerable, and in its application still greater strides in the days that are to come. By trading in Paeroa the people will circulate their own money in their own district, and thus further assist in promoting the town to that sphere of importance which it seems destined to occupy. By being loyal to themselves and to their business people Paeroa will receive an additional forward move, and that prosperity that shines brightly over the land will be shared by one and all.
THE HOME OF GOOD VALUE. MR. J. P. GAMBLE SENDS GREETINGS “Yes, Mr Editor,” was the opening remark of Mr J. P. Gamble, “we have the Christmas goods, and in greater array and assortment than ever before. Tell the people to come along and shop early and secure the selections.” Mr Gamble’s drapery store is in Normanby Road right opposite the Municipal Chambers, and he extends festive greetings. To try and describe the hundreds upon hundreds of useful articles that may be used as Christmas gifts would take more than time will permit, but a casual glance brings some prominent lines into view, such as Kayser hose, from 9s lid to 12s lid, and also the famous Gold Star brand W from 6s lid to 8s lid—beautiful presents to behold. Then there are fancy lines, such as ladies’ handbags, pergloves, soaps, handkerchiefs by the thousand packed in nice boxes. For the home itself dainty curtains, lace, Madras, and net, in all shades and texture. Floor coverings, linos., congoleum mats, carpets, rugs, mattresses, and many lines to make the home comfortable. The men’s department has also an equal assortment of summer goods, and there is no excuse for any man, youth, or boy not to be fashionably dressed for this Christmas. “The Home of Good Value” is offering something special in men’s suits, sportscoats, and flannels, and ties in endless variety. This firm can supply your needs in hats, braces, socks, or underclothing at a reasonable price with the good values that always obtain at Gamble’s. ~ . .. With a good and efficient staff wait■Wng to attend to your needs you will leave disappointed if you make your purchases at the “Home of Good Value.” ! A PROGRESSIVE FIRM. ' THE ECONOMIC FOOTWEAR STORE. In looking over the past twelve months one cannot help noticing the r marked progress that is going on in Paeroa, and, seeing this progress and advancement, it is not to be wondered at that several new firms have opened up. One of the chief ones is the Economic Footwear Store. This firm commenced a cash business in March last, and has proved a boon to hundreds. ‘ The cash system has enabled 'jkthis firm to sell to the public footwear iWit reasonable prices. The aim of the firm ’from the start was to do business on a strictly cash basis only, and in doing this they have been able to give the public the benefit of good quality boots at a very low. figure. For the festive season a present procured from this fashionable and up-to-date footwear store is quite appropriate. Visitors will be delighted with the very fine display of footwear that has been specially imported for the summer. In thanking the public for the liberal patronage accorded it, the management offers Christmas and New Year greetings to all. CHRISTMAS MEAT. WALLS’ STANDARD. W Mr John Walls again extends his greetings to his many customers. His Central Meat Mart, in Arney Street, will, as usual, be stocked with only the best. He has gone to a lot of trouble to ensure being able to adequately cater for the heavier side of the holiday season. He has always been noted for the excellent lamb he sells, and defies competition for cash cm the block. To avoid any disappointment he asks his many customers to book their orders early. This will serve a : double purpose—he will know just exactly what to kill and his customers will be assured of a supply- Mr Walls jtejs established an enviable reputajnbh for the quality of the meat he sells, and the usual high standard is u, bjeing maintained this Christmas. Ring J 111, and your order will rejceive prompt attention. Delivery in ♦ the borough is assured.
THE OLD-ESTABLISHED CHEMIST. THIRTY-FOUR YEARS IN PAEROA. This is a record of which Mr Geo. P. de Castro may well be proud. His pharmacy is the oldest-established chemist’s business in Ohinemuri, and still holds the reputation of being one of the most up-to-date chemist’s shops in the province. This is, of course, a most essential thing, especially so for the family and the good housewife who prefer their own Christmas cake and puddings. Customers are urged to look a little ahead and see that their stock of coal and firewood will be ample to last over the Christmas and New Year holidays. The coal supplied by this firm is the famous Pukemiro, from the Puke Collieries at Huntly, and is recognised as a first-grade coal for household purposes. VICTORIA BAKERY AND TEA ROOMS. With the advent of Christmas and the holiday season the housewife has to consider* a good deal what she will do for her cakes. To start off and do the baking with all her multitude of duties is outside the question, so the news that the Victoria Bakery is alive to her wants will be greeted. All small goods are features of this enterprising firm, which, by the way, is having large additions and alterations to its shop and tea rooms. Parties and picnics are catered for, and the goods delivered up to the minute. Bread, the big feature of this firm, is delivered daily in the town of Paeroa, and in Komata, Hikutaia, Netherton, Kerepeehi, and Turua districts. The Victoria Tea Rooms, up-to-date in every particular, have a wide reputation for excellence. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE. POPULAR AUCTIONEERS. Although there is scarcely anything that this firm can offer at this season of the year, their local agent, Mr Gordon McMillan, knows just where to lay his hands on prime lamb, mutton, pork, or beef for the trade. Beyond wishing all their clients greetings for the festive season, and a hope that 1930 will be a “bumper” year for all the farmers and tradespeople, there is nothing much to say. This firm holds regular monthly sales in its Paeroa yards, and this sale has now become the most popular in the Thames Valley. Special clearance sales, whether for the house or farm, are undertaken.
