SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

PLAINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. PREPARATIONS FOR MEETING. Arrangements for the second annual Hauraki Plains Primary Schools Athletic Championship sports meeting, which will be held on March 7, 1930, were advanced at a meeting of representatives of school committees at Ngatea on Friday evening, Mr C. S. Foster presiding. Programme. The order of events in the programme as submitted by the secretary was adopted. The events will be the same as last year, but the orfler of running has been amended to provide as long a spell as possible for competitors taking part in numerous events. All heats will be run consecutively, and all finals at the end of the programme. Entries will close on February 20. Prizes. The members of the winning teams in the relay races will each receive a silver medal, and their school will receive a silver cup. All other first-prize winners will receive a silver cup, and all secondprize winners a silver medal. In view of the fact that small schools did not stand the same chance of winning the championship trophy as did schools with a big roll number, the secretary suggested that application be made to the Herbert Smith Fund trustees for another trophy, and it was decided that should this be granted it would be allotted as an annual points prize for competition among those schools with a roll number below sixty. It was also decided to apply for trophies for annual school points prizes for girls and lor boys. Officers. The following officers were elected : Starters, Messrs L. James and W.
