MINING NEWS.

OHINEMURI G. AND S. MINES CO. CRUSHING 100 TONS A DAY. In conversation with a representative of the Waihi Telegraph last week Mr J. R. Noble, superintendent of the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines; Maratoto, who was in Waihi buying further plant for his company, stated that the maximum tonnage of ore to be crushed for the time being—loo tons per day for six days in the week - -was reached by the battery the week previous, and would be maintained. A very considerable tonnage of crushing material had been opened up to date, sufficient to keep the mill going for 18 months to two years, and further ora reserves were being added by the development works in hand. The Camoola reef, from which the bulk of the quartz was being won, said Mr Noble, was a powerful and welldefined lode in the low level, often running to widths of upwards of 30ft and carrying in places very high-grade ore, largely silver. The proportion of gold to silver was greater on the southern extension of this ore body than in the drive northward.
