CONTROL OF TRAFFIC.
• SUGGESTION OF GROUPING. FURTHER DETAILS WANTED. The No. 2 District Highways Council has advised the Hauraki Plains County Council that at a recent meeting a suggestion was made of grouping counties for the purpose of traffic inspection. One group included Hauraki Plains, the northern portions of Waikato and Raglan, and part of Franklin counties to Pokeno, Tuakau, Mercer, Huntly, and Te Kauwhata town boards, and Ngaruawahia borough. Subject to approval of the grouping, and to a subsidy of twothirds by the Highways Board, formal application should be made to the Highways Board accordingly. Cr. Parfitt said that the grouping was unsuitable for Hauraki Plains. Cr. Madgwick, the council’s representative on the Highways Council, said that the scheme would be an elastic one under the direct control of the Highways Board. At times all the inspectors from the No. 2 district might be on duty in one county. Cr. Parfitt asked how the council’s proportion of the cost would be calculated. If it was on valuation the suggested grouping was very unsatisfactory. Cr. Harris drew attention to the fact that the council was due to discuss the appointment of .an inspector of its own. . Cr. Madgwick moved that the council was prepared to favourably consider the scheme, but desired further information, particularly in regard to methods of payment.
