PUBLIC CRUSHING.

FACILITIES FOR DISTRICT. AWAITING OFFICER’S RETURN. The Paeroa Chamber of Commerce at its meeting'in September passed a resolution that the Minister of Mines be asked what steps had been taken to provide crushing facilities in this district, in accordance with the scheme approved by the committee which waited upon the Minister at Waihi some time ago. A copy of the resolution .was forwarded to Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P. At the quarterly meeting of the chamber on Tuesday evening a letter was received from Mr Samuel stating that the matter had already been engaging his attention, and that he had asked the Minister in the House what was being done. The Minister had advised that on the return of a certain officer to New Zealand the question would be fully discussed. Upon the reading of the correspondence Mr D. Leach suggested that the Government be requested to divert the £5OOO voted on the Supplementary Estimates for a survey of the PaeroaPokeno railway route to the more worthy object of crushing facilities, instead of merely throwing the money away on a survey that had already been completed. There being no further discussion, the subject was allowed to lapse for the time being.
