RIFLE SHOOTING.

PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB. FINAL PRACTICE MATCH. On Saturday last the members of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club held their final practice shoot before commencing the club competitions. Shooting was carried out from the 800yds and 900yds ranges, and some good scores resulted, especially at the former range. The weather conditions were good, although there was a strong wind to contend with. Captain H. Simmonds headed the list with a total of 60, obtaining the possible at 800yds. The scoring was as follows : Captain H. Simmonds, 35 at 800yds, 25 at 900yds, total 60 ; Rfm. H. A. Morrison, 31, 26—57 ; Rfm. A. A. Jenkinson, 29, 26—55 ; Cadet A. Simmonds, 31, 23—54 ; Rfm. E. Turton, 28, 25—53 ; Dep.-Pres. R. Wells, 26, 26—52 ; Rfm. R. W. Roberts, 30, 22— 52 ; Rfm. R. I. Roberts, 33, 19—52 Pres. F. C. Hubbard, 28, 22—50 ; Rfm. W. A. Reid, 22, 20—42. Next Saturday members of the club will have plenty to interest them on the range. The season’s competitions for the club championship and the handicap aggregate will be commenced, and there will also be a handicap competition for the day for a trophy donated by Mr H. M. Shand. The ranges to be used are 300yds and 500yds, and shooting will commence at 2 p.m.
