SWIMMING BATHS.
THE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. RECOMMENDATION MADE. At the Borough Council meeting on Thursday evening last the baths committee reported that sinctj, opening the baths the weather had not been very good for bathing. However, the revenue during the past month had, it was thought, warranted an early opening. The spring board had broken across the centre, and was beyond repair, A new board, and the labour to erect it would cost 355. Lighting was necessary at the main entrance, and it was suggested that a street light might cover the difficulty. It was recommended that the spring board should be replaced and lighting provided at the entrance. With reference to the application from the Paeora Swimming Club for a high diving board, and further light at each end of the baths, the committee had gone into these matters and had found that the cost of providing same would be £25. The Baths- Committees realised that the extra appointments asked for by the Swimming Club would be a great help to them when holding carnivals, but wished to point out to the council that the bath account was already in debt and the club should place before the council some proposition whereby it was prepared to help financially with the work, which was a benfit to the swimming club when holding carnivals.
