NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Ngatea District High School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs C. S. Foster, W. Wylde, C. Vagg, R- Cornthwaite, and the secretary, Mr W. Chappell (headmaster). School Additions. Advice that the tender of Mr T. S. Stokes, of Auckland, had been accepted for the erection of the new primary school was received from the Education Board. The headmaster reported that the timber had arrived, and the builders proposed commencing work on Tuesday. They intended working early and late to complete the job in five weeks’ time. Concerning the location of the proposed building, Mr Chappell said that the site pegged out was not parallel with the road, and to his mind was unsuitable in view of future extensions. Accordingly he had interviewed the board’s architect and had persuaded him to have the site altered. It would now be 20ft from the NgateaKaihere road and 18ft from the boundary of the headmaster’s residence. Another alteration made at his sug-. gestion was to have the school nameplate erected on the main building instead of on the small building. The contractor had also been authorised to connect all the school to the county water supply. This had been done on his recommendation. The board’s architect had agreed with the necessity of a septic tank, but had pointed out that the cost would be high on account of the outbuildings having to be raised. The figure mentioned by the architect was £250, but if some cheaper scheme could be devised by the committee the matter would be further considered. This matter was discussed at length, and it was agreed to submit a certain 'scheme to the board with an urgent request for careful consideration Finance. The Auckland Education Board advised having credited the committee’s account with £22 16s for the quarter ending December 31, and £3 for an account paid. * Ground Improvement. The secretary reported that the board had £l7 Is 3d in hand on account of the ground improvement fund. He was of opinion that the pergola entrance proposed some time ago, when the fund was raised, should be proceeded with. This was agreed to. Painting of School. It was agreed to urge the board to have the school and teacher’s residence painted. The cutting of the grass in the playground was authorised. A New Flag. .. The Auckland Education Board advised that a New Zealand Ensign had been forwarded, at the committee’s request. Acounts. Accounts totalling £7 8s 3d were passed for payment. Electric Power. Arising out of the Power Board’s account of 5s per month for electric power foi- lighting and heating the secretary was instructed to write, pointing out that only about ninepennyworth of electricity was used monthly, to urge that a different system of charging be adopted. School Sports. » Mr C. S. Foster advised that a meeting would be held on November 15, in connection with the school championship sports. Members promised to be in attendance.
