At the conclusion on Saturday at mid-day Capt. Dittmer, M.C., in presenting the handsome trophies won at the meeting, complimented the winners and runners-up in the territorial and cadet championships, remarking that their aggregates were most creditable. Corporal A. E. Simmonds, of Paeroa, was to be congratulated on his fine shooting in Match 5, in which event he secured the possible number of hits in the snap shooting practice (Figure G, 4 seconds exposure). He regretted that Waihi had not

lived up to its reputation and provided the necessary fine weather for the conclusion of the meeting, but he assured those present that better weather conditions would be arranged for- the next annual meeting, which he hoped all would attend. The num--ber of competitors, 160, that had attended the meeting showed that shooting in the regimental district was by no means a back number. Rifle shooting deserved backing because it was the best of all sport : a marksman receiving just what he earned, and nothing more, and further, it encouraged determination ; to be a good shot a mafksman must have determination. The meeting, the first of its kind held for a number of years, had been most successful, and easily came up to expectations. The cheerful and keen spirit exhibited by all competitors, even during the boisterous weather of that morning, had been splendid, and was appreciated.
