ARMISTICE DAY.
TWO MINUTES’ SILENCE. MONDAY’S HOMAGE. In a circular letter the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, Bt., advised the Ohinemuri County Council that the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs had cabled :— “His Majesty has approved of the arrangements for the observance in this country of Armistice Day, November 11, on the same lines as in previous years, namely : . “ ‘Short services will be held at the Cenotaph on the lines adopted in previous years, including the hymn “O God our Help in Ages Past.” Two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11 a.m. Local authorities in this country will be asked to arrange for suspension of all vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m., but rail and water transport will not be suspended.’ ” In accordance with His Majesty’s wishes, Sir Joseph Ward stated that he would be glad if the council would make suitable ari’angements. The County Council decided to act with the Paeroa Borough Council, as was usual on this day. Signals to be Fired. The Borough Council gives notice that signals will be fired from Primrose Hill to commence and end the period of two minutes.
