Two hundred of the poorest children from Stepney were in camp at Burnham Beeches, near Windsor, England) during August. One small boy could not, during the first few days, be persuaded to eat anything but bread and butter, and it was found that he had never known what it was to sit down to a hot, cooked meal. Other lads at first steadfastly refused to eat eggs. They had never tasted them before going into camp.
