SALE OF WORK.
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AFFAIR A SUCCESSFUL DAY. The spring-time sale of work promoted by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of St. Andrew’s Church was held yesterday in the Centenary Hall. An active band of workers had prepared a most tempting display of needlework, flowers, sweets, cakes, and produce for disposal, the offerings meeting with a ready sale. Keen interest was displayed in the cooking competitions, which were judged by Mr D. Leach. The results were as follows : Scones, Mrs Power, 1 ; Madeira cake, Mrs H. J. Hayward, 1 ; butter sponge, Mrs J. W. Silcock, 1 ; fruit cake, Mrs R. Catton 1, Mrs J. Brocket 2 ; plain sponge, Mrs J. Silcock 1, Mrs Power 2. Children’s section ; Sponge, Thelma Fulton 1 ; scones, Laura Ward 1. The stall-holders were as follows : Tea room, Mesdames Wilson and McIntyre ; needlework, Mrs Simmonds and Miss Keller ; flowers, Mesdames Evans and Hutchinson ; cakes, Mesdames W. E. Ward and 11. Shand ; produce, Mesdames Brocket, Cunningham, and Raffill ; sweets, Misses Malcolm, Steedman, and Slyfield. Musical items were rendered during the afternoon by Masters C. Mettam and E. Turton, and monologues by Miss Grace Dale. The accompaniments were supplied by Mr E. G. Simmons, It is expected that the result! will prove very satisfactory to all concerned.
