DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. CHURCH BAZAAR. A successful bazaar, organised for the purpose of reducing the debt on the Methodist Church building at Ngatea, was held in the Public Hall on Wednesday afternoon and evening. A row of attractive looking stalls had been built along one side of the hall, branched cabbage trees being used as supports for the pale green and yellow paper streamers which were used to divide the stalls. The stall-holders were as follows : —Flowers and produce, Mrs Dudding; cakes, Mrs Coppins ; sewing, Mesdames Schultz and Cox; sweets, Misses Chatfield and Paul; soft drinks, Rev. E. Thomas; dips, etc., Mrs Wilkins and Miss Dudding. The refreshment stall on the stage was conducted by Mesdames Walton and Tarver.

Buyers were present in fair numbers during the aftenoon, and in the evening the attendance was large. Numerous competitions were held, and among the prize-winners were the following :—Quoits, Master V. Birkenhead ; nail-driving, Mr C. Molloy; stepping, the chain, Mr W. Lawrence ; fishing competition, Mr C. W. Shultz ; deck quoits, Mr H. Martin ; hat-trim-ming, Mr R. Dally; quoits, Mr C. Schultz; girls’ hopscotch, Miss C. Sparrow; girls’ hopscotch, Miss O. Clark ; length of rod (4ft. 68in.) Miss Dent, 4ft. 7in.; weight of cake (71bs 9iozs.), Mrs Birkenhead, 71bs. lOoz.; length of string (6ft. 6Jin.), Mrs Cotter, 6ft. 6in.; lollies in bottle (242), Mrs F. Speedy, 246 ; maize in bottle (297), Mrs C. Foster, 296 ; lollies in jar (136), Miss J. Sydenham, 136; ladies’ nail-driving, Mrs W. Wylde ; ladies’ stepping, Mrs J. L. V. Reed ; ladies’ quoits, Mrs C. Bertelsen.
