FATAL ACCIDENT.

POLICE EVIDENCE. * INQUEST ADJOURNED. At the inquest hejd on the body of Mr A. Wilson, who was killed on Friday morning at Totara Point as a result of his motor-car overturning, Mr H. Lucas, J.P., acted as coroner. The inquest was held in the Thames Police Station:

The following was the police report :—

’ “Deceased was driving a two-seater Ford motor-car along the ThamesPaeroa road, and when at Totara, two miles from Thames, proceeding towards Thames at 2.30 a.m., it is alleged that something went wrong with the steering gear and the car got out of control, leaving the road and turning over into a drain at the side of the road, deceased being killed instantly. He had as passengers Eva White and Lucy Alley, of Hikutaia, and Samuel West, of 27 Ponsonby Road, Auckland. An examination at the scene of the accident after daylight showed that the car must have been driven at an excessive speed ; that it had turned over twice before coming to rest, partly in the drain mentioned. The steering gear was found to be in perfect order, and the cai’ was in top gear. Samuel West and Miss Alley are both injured, and were removed to the Thames Hospital. - Miss White was taken to Miss Alley’s home at Hikutaia, where she is staying. She is suffering from shock.”

Deceased Identified.

J. A. Maloney, of Paeroa, gave evidence that he had known Wilson for 12 months, and had seen him shortly after 5 p.m. on the day previous to the accident, when Wilson had suggested to him that they attend a dance at Hikutaia.

Adjournment Granted.

On the application of the police the inquest was. then adjourned sine die for the production of further evidence.

Condition of Injured.

Just before going to press it was learned that the condition of both Miss Alley and Mr West was improving.
