Chicago’s population has now reached four millions, and' it ranks as the third city in the world. A New Zealander, now visiting thgt city, writing to a Cambridge friend, makes interesting references to the wonderful buildings there. Two new buildings now in the course of erection are of 49 and 61 storeys respectively. The skyscrapers, he wrotes, are not altogether ugly. Some have wonderful stone carving or beautiful polished stone faces. Others have Gothic tops. In most of these some 25 storeys go straight up, and the others narrow each ten storeys. From the top of these buildings the streets present a remarkable sight.
