TE AROHA ROAD.

CHAMBER’S RESOLUTION.

TE AROHA BODY’S CRITICISM.

At a meeting of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce the condition of the Paeroa-Te Aroha road came under discussion..

The president said the state of the road between Te Aroha and Tirohia had been brought to his notice and it had been suggested that the chamber write to the A.A.A. Mr Gills said some improvements were now being made. The worst stretch was between Tirohia and Paeroa. '

Mr Board : It is high time the, two towns took up the question of improving the highway between Te Aroha and Paeroa. Traffic was increasing and the road was narrow with bad turnings, and had a bad surface. He would suggest that the A.A.A. and the Highways Board be approached. The road wanted reengineering and relaying. What was being done now would have no lasting effect. The road was positively dangerous in many places. Many cars had been in trouble and a number had been destroyed because of the shocking state of the road. The president : If we write to the A.A.A. the matter will go before the Main Highways Board. Mr Board : What I am pressing for is the strongest representations. Thousands of pounds come to Te Aroha from people using the road and it is highly important to the town that the road should be improved. They should not be content with writing to A.A.A. They should use every means in their power. They could write to the members of Parliament, the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce and the A.A.A. Mr Cochrane : What is the local committee of the A.A.A. doing2?

The president : We are expected to write to that committee. Mr Cochrane: The committee should act on its own initiative. It was decided to write to the secretary of the local committee of the A.A.A. and urge that the matter be taken up forthwith with the Auckland executive.—Te Aroha News.
