PATETONGA ROADING.
METALLING COMMENCED. RAPID PROGRESS LIKELY. The metalling of the Lower Main Road, Patetonga, commenced on Wednesday last, when about fifty yards of stone from the contractor’s quarry at Maukoro were spread to form the bottom course. It is hoped to increase the daily output of the quarry to over 100 yards a day and to complete the road as far as Kaihere this season.
The quarry has been fitted with modern machinery, including a powerful steam engine, compressed air drills, and high pressure water for sluicing. The Lands Drainage Department’s work of preparing the road is well advanced.
