REST ROOM.

STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR.

REASON FOR DELAY. At the meeting of the Paeroa Bor-1 ough Council on Thursday evening last, the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) said that Cr. H. Bray, who was unavoidably absent, had left him a note suggesting that he make some reference to the proposed rest room. Rumours were circulating. Mr Marshall explained that the plans were not as yet ready, work of other parts of the scheme occupying so much time. No one could form even a conception of the work he had put in during the last two months. He was at it from 5.30 a.m to 10 o’clock at night. The plans for the rest room would have to wait if he was to do them, as he could not possibly prepare them yet. Certainly, if an architect was engaged and tenders were called, the work could be put in hand sooner, but that would cost anything from £26 to £3O. Another point was that the concrete plant, which was his own personal property, was being used elsewhere at present. It would be better to wait and get that for nothing. The Mayor said he frankly admitted it was his fault, but he simply could not find time to do the plans, which would take the matter of three or- four days to do, and so they would have to wait. He was working to Jiis limit. On conclusion of the Mayor’s statement, Cr. H. J. Hare said everyone was anxious to see the work done, but he was quite satisfied that the Mayor was doing his share.

Cr. F. E. Flatt remarked that he had heard no rumours. If there were any rumours going round he always heard them. As far as the rest room was concerned he saw no need for hurry, there being other work in hand, and the Mayor should not be rushed. There was no general rumour. The fact of doing without a rest room so long meant it could wait. The Mayor concluded by saying that the wait would not be long, but that he was not in the slightest disturbed about the matter.
