The reduction in drainage rates of from 4id in the £ as charged by the Government to Ud as charged by the Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board did not carry much weight with a deputation which waited on the board on Saturday to secure additional outlets. The argument advanced by the settlers was that all settlers shared in the reduction in rates, but the greater facilities provided by the board were not equally distributed.
