FARMERS’ UNION.
THE NGATEA BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. There was but a small attendance at the October meeting of the Ngatea branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, over which Mr J. Darlington presided. Abattoir. In reply to the union’s request for information as to the site of the abattoir, the county clerk wrote suggesting that the request be referred to the Hauraki Plains Meat Co., Ltd., to which company the council had delegated its powers. On the motion of Mr Phillips, seconded by Mr R. Burke, the secretary was instructed to write to the County council stating that the union considered the reply was insufficient, and that it was reluctantly compelled to again ask where the abattoir would be built. Visit of Experts. No reply having been received from Mr L. Robb concerning the visit of Dr. Annett and himself to deliver a lecture on fertilising and grass-land management, the secretary was instructed to communicate with him again. Diseased Stock. The practice of stock inspectors having stock suffering from contagious diseases assembled at public saleyards was seriously criticised, and the secretary was instructed to express the views of members to the Department of Agriculture. Paeroa-Pokeno Railway. A reminder that the district expected to see a sum placed on the Estimates for the construction of the Pae-roa-Pokeno railway will be sent to Messrs A. M. Samuel, M.P., and A. W. Hall, M.P.
