SCHOOL BOOKS.
NO CHANGE FOR FIVE YEARS. The effect of the new syllabus on the books used in the primary schools was referred to in the House or Representatives last week. Pointing out that quite a number of unauthorised school books were recently introduced into the schools, Mr R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) said that the parents were involved in increased expense and were complaining that they had to buy new books before the others had worn out. He inquired whether it would be possible to bring in any more unauthorised books. The Minister replied that although unauthorised books had been introduced, teachers were now confined to books on the authorised list. It was expected that the books would remain unchanged for five years.
