RIFLE SHOOTING.

N.Z. MINIATURE RIFLE EVENT. PAEROA ENTRANTS. Shooting took place on Friday night at the Drill Hall, Paeroa, for the Witcombe and Caldwell Cup and “Own Start” competitioii of the N.Z. Miniature Rifle Association. These annual events are shot for over’the whole of New Zealand. Witcombe Cup. The Witcombe Cup is for a team of five, all members of one club, shooting ten shots, all to count, two shots on each bull, over a 20yds or 25yds range. The winning team holds the cup for one year, and each member of the winning team receives a miniature cup, which becomes his own property. Friday’s scores in®this event were : H. Simmonds 92, R. I. Wells 92, A. A. Jenkinson 90, E.* Turton 90 ; F. C. Hubbard still to fire. ‘Own Start.” In this competition each competitor entering allots his own handicap. The handicap (founts up to 100, after which two points are deducted for each point in excess of 100. The match is fired over 20yds to 25yds, 10 shots, two on each bull, no sighter. The entry fees are divided into prize-money. i Paeroa’s results on Friday were : H.' Simmonds, scratch, 95 ; R. Lever, 1, 92—93 ; A. A. Jenkinson, scr., 92 —92; E. Turton, 1, 90—91 ; L. Morris, 1, 87 —BB ; R. I. Wells, scr., 88—88 ; with F. Patterson, 1, yet to fire.
