MILITARY NOTES.

RIFLE MEETING. In the No. 2 Regimental District Rifle Meeting to be held on the Waihi rifle range on Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, there will be many imost interesting events for both territorials and senior cadets. , For cadets under 17 there will be two matches with miniature cartridge rifles at 25 yards. Cadets under 18 will fire six events, including 25 yards, with miniature cartridge rifles, and 25, . 200, and two of 300 yards with ,3O3in. rifles. Matches Nos. 8 to 10 are open to territorials, reservists (under 25 years of age), and senior cadets, No. 8 being of 200 yards, No. 9 of 300 yards, and No. 10 of 500 yards. No. 11 match will be an individual plate competition of 200 yards, between territorials and reservists. All of the above will, of course, be fired under various conditions. ■No. 13 will be a cadet unit teams match for teams of five (under 18 years of age), and a commander who may be an officer or retained N.C.O. The object of this match will be to promote rapidity of movement, combined with accuracy of fire when surprised by a well posted enemy, and, , further, to encourage shooting at moving targets. Ten iron plates will be in view for 30 secs., after which ten moving figure “3” targets will move across their front in • quick march time and disappear at the end of the gallery. No. 14 will be a similar match for territorial force units and reservists.

.Numbers 16, 17 and 18 matches will be for special Vickers and Lewis Machine, and Hotchkiss gun teams. The concluding match , No. 19, will be a Bunny Pool target match, 25 yards, five rounds. Entries must be made to the subarea sergeant-major by cadets and territorials before Friday, November 1. The entrance fees for cadet matches will be 6d each match, and for territorial matches Is each match; teams and machine-gun 2s 6d. There will be no entrance fee for cadet or territorial aggregate match. " The meeting will practically serve as an elimination contest for the national event at Trenthanr. THE HAURAKIS. Promotions. Lieutenant C. A. Le Lievre, Ist battalion, to be captain. Dated September 3, 1929. , In Thursday’s N.Z. Gazette the promotion of Mr V. A. Murphy, of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, from lieutenant to captain is gazetted. Mr Murphy, who is at present at Tairua, was lately in the Public Works Department’s office here. Decorations. The Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration has been awarded to Major W. F. Fraser, the Waikato Regiment, and to Colonel M. Aldred, commanding the Ist N.Z. Mounted Rifle Brigade.
