SOCIAL EVENING.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH EVENT GATHERING AT SOLDIERS’ CLUB On Thursday afternoon last a very pleasant social gathering was held it the Soldiers’ Club, Wharf Street. The affair was promoted by the ladies’ auxiliary of St. Andrew’s Presby-’ terian Church, and was attended byg| about 100 members and friends. f The object was to receive gifts for ' the purpose of a sale to be held a little later on, and no doubt when the wrappings are untied there will be revealed a host of dainty and useful articles for display. A fine atmosphere pervaded the function, and this was enhanced by the warm welcome extended to everyone by the committee.

The Rev. J. Lowden formally welcomed all present, who were entertained to afternoon tea and a delightful programme of music. The contributors to the programme were Mesdames Brocket, Hutchinson, Malcolm, and Noble, and Misses Malcolm and Slyfield. Mrs Epps delighted the company with an elocutionary item. Mr E. G. Simmonds and Miss Gibb played the accompaniments.
