THE NGATEA CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The Ngatea Tennis Club held its annual meeting on Monday evening, Mr C. Bertelsen presiding over 18 members. In reporting on the activities of the past season the president congratulated the club on its successes, particularly in winning the senior grade competition for the Laidlaw Cup, a trophy which had not yet been presented. Financially the club had had a good year, and had it not been for the exceptional cost of the repairs to the courts there would have been a satisfactory credit balance. The membership had shown a satisfactory increase, and there was every indication of a further substantial increase. The surroundings of the courts had received regular attention. All the trees had been trimmed, and more than 40 young trees had been planted. The Balance-Sheet. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that receipts totalled £lOB 10s Bd, including £39 15s from subscriptions, £6 16s from donations, and £l9 14s 6d from dances. The main item of expenditure was £73 7s 5d for improvements to the courts, and the credit balance was 19s Bd, as compared with £6 16s lOd at the beginning of the season. The auditor, Mr C. S. Foster, recommended that 10 per cent, of the cost of courts and buildings be written off for depreciation, and that the buildings be insured at once and given a coat of paint. He also recommended that the grounds be locked when not in use. In his certificate the auditor congratulated Mr Ludlow on his work as secretary and treasurer. In discussing the financial position due to the fact that there was only £2O in hand towards the annual instalment of £6O due on January 1, 1930, it was decided to discontinue the Saturday night dances, as they were a losing proposition, and hold regular “Yankee” tournaments with a small entrance fee. Likewise, it was decided not to purchase goods for the opening day but depend on members to bring a basket. Sundry necessary repairs, would be done by voluntary labour on a date to be arranged. Laidlaw Cup. It was decided to protest to the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association at the non-presentation of the trophies won at the last tournament, and to ask for authority to obtain possession of the Laidlaw Cup. Competition. Opposition was expressed to the zone system of playing the inter-club competitions, and the delegate to the association was instructed to advocate each club meeting every other club. , , Officers.
