LOCAL AND GENERAL

Four passengers in a sedan car, driven by Mr-W. Elvin, of Turua, were thrown through the roof when the vehicle skidded off the high' crown of Orchard East Road, Ngatea, on Saturday afternoon and turned on its side, possibly on account of the driver applying the Iltakes suddenly when in the loose metal dust on the roadside. Mrs W. Elvin received cuts on the head and bruises when the car fell on her, while Mr C. A. Gibson, insurance agent, of Ngatea, received severe bruises to the shoulder and back. The others, including a young baby, escaped lightly, considering their method of exit. The car was considerably damaged.

Advice received from Auckland is to the effect that all those artists engaged by Mr A. Constantine to give a concert in aid of the Ngatea Church of England building fund will be present at Ngatea on Wednesday evening, and others whose names did not appear on the published programme will also contribute items, so the concert promises to be the best ever' staged in Ngatea. Building permits to the value of £1095 have been issued during the month by the Hauraki Plains County Council. These include the erection of four dwellings, two garages, and two cowsheds.
