TURUA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Turua Town Board held its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, Air J. Mules presiding over Messrs J. Schmidt, J. McConnell, F. Olsen, S. G. Williams, H. H. Allen, J. T. Davies, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. Rates. In accordance with notice given, the chairman moved that a general rate of lid in the £ on the qapital valuation and a street lighting rate of Id in the £ on the capital valuation be struck, and that a rebate of 5 per cent, be allowed on those rates paid within 30 days of the due date. Quote for Bitumen. A quotation for bitumen was received, the price being lower than hitherto. Haunehing Bitumen Roads. The Public Works Department wrote with reference to the haunching with metal of the sealed surface of Piako Road, and asked that proposals be submitted. Mr Williams said that on other roads in the county red metal had proved very satisfactory, as it bound quickly. It was doubtful whether this would be subsidised in view of the department's stipulated requirements, but even without the subsidy the red metal would be less costly to the board. The county engineer had expressed the opinion that the board could spend the money necessary for spawls to better advantage elsewhere. Mr Mules, on behalf of the works committee, reported that haunehing was necessary on all the sealed roads that had not already been done. Members suggested getting the County Council to undertake the work with red metal and finance it for the time being. This was agreed to in respect of the highway from the post office northward. Dog Tax. Mr Andrew Olsen was appointed collector of dog tax. Repairs. Repairs to the riverfront road to the road alongside the concrete road and the footpath in front of the store were left to the works committee to have done.
