NGATEA. NGATEA CONCERT PARTf. J The difficulties facing an amateur' concert party when appearing in a strange place and before an audience that does not have the same tolerance’ as does a home-town audience for a local production were experienced by the Ngatea Tennis Club’s concert party on its appearance at Turtia last Tuesday evening under arrangement s ; with the Turua branch of the Plunket (/ Society’s queen carnival effort. When the concert was given in Ngatea some weeks ago the programme went with a swing, and the large audience recalled almost every number; but in Turua, where the hall is much bigger, the apparent smallness of the attendance and of the applause did not give the performers the same encouragement, so the show lacked life. In the main the programme was the “same as that given at Ngatea, but some of the parts were taken by other performers. Mrs W. Clark took the vocal part of the spectacular number “Rendezvous,” in which the statues were Misses Paul, Barriball, and Chatfield. It was enthusiastically recalled, as also was the final number, “The Wedding of the Painted Doll.” An outstanding number was a violin quartette by Masters E. Bertelsen, R. Henry, F. Johnston, and A. Parker, with Master R. Carr at the piano. New items were songs by Mr R. Muller, of Turua, whose rendering of “Signora” earned a recall; Mr E. Coppins’ “Two Eyes of Grey,” and Mrs W. Clark’s “A Little House by a Waterfall.” Mr M. Martin led the chorus in “That Funny Melody” and “There’s a Rainbow Round My Shoulder.” After the concert there was a dance, the music being by the Ngatea orchestra. .
