OPERATIONS DURING MONTH.

CENOTAPH AND REST ROOM.

Work on the cenotaph is proceeding apace, while no start as yet has been made with the ladies’ rest-rdom, according to the following report, tabled by the works committee at the Paeroa Borough Council meeting last night : “Ordinary maintenance has been carried out during the past month, including the periodical complete cleanout of the sewage liquefaction tank, which is now receiving proper attention.

“Formation work on the track up Primrose Hill is practically completed, and about 40 tons of material have been carted on to the site of the proposed cenotaph. The casting of masonry blocks for the memorial is almost completed, and the erection will commence at an early date, the working drawings for which have been completed and are on the table to-night.

“The reconstruction of the Old Te Aroha road is well in hand.

“Work on piping and filling drains and footpath formation in the Station Road area has proceeded to an advanced stage, and will be completed at an early date. “Much stripping etc., has been done in the quarry, and sufficient metal is now in sight for the streets being constructed. To provide further employment this is being hand-broken by contract.

“Preparation is complete for practically all the tree planting, and the actual planting will be undertaken this month if the frosts appear to be over.

“Fraser Street extension has been formed and the bottom course of spawls®iaid. “Work at the hospital is proceeding satisfactorily. The back road has been formed and spawled, and the cutting graded and soiled ready for grassing, while the back yard and front grading are under way. “Owing to the pressure of work the plans for the ladies’ rest-room have not been completed ; but it is hoped to get them done shortly and commence the work.”
