In the vicinity of Whangarei recently a settler discovered a grub which was evidently effectively killing gorse. The insect is borer-like in action, commencing at the ruots and working through the stem. Further specimens) were found at Mairtowi! suburbs, and were submitted to the science master at the Whangarei High School, who forwarded them and some dead gorse to the Cawthron Institute.
