RIFLE SHOOTING.
PAEROA’S MINIATURE CLUB. SUCCESSFUL TEAMS MATCH. With a good attendance of members, the Paeroa Defence Miniature Rifle Club on Wednesday night held a successful, and interesting teams match, being . the first such match since the formation of the club. Four teams of sixa-side were formed. Under the captaincy of Capt. H. Simmonds, A. A. Jenkinson, F. C. Hubbard. and R. I. Wells respectively. Each captain coached his own men while they were firing. The cohditidns were seven shots and one sighter, the possible being 70. Four members obtained the posible, E. Mead, A. A. Jenkinson, F. C. Hubbard and A. Mills. ■
The competition created interest throughout rhe shooting, and so close was the finish that the winning team was not known until after the last shot was fired. Capt. Simmonds’ team came out on top, beating A. A. Jenkinson’s team by the small margin of only three points. The scoring was as follows : -
No. J Team.—Capt. H. Simmonds (captain), 68; E. Mead, 70 ; H. A. Mills, 66 ; A. Mellor, 66 ; T. McCormick, 69 ; E. Turton, junr., 67. Total, 406.
No. 2 Team.—A. A Jenkinson (captain). 70 ; M. Simmonds, 67 : H. Lewer, 64 ;A. Coxhead, 67; F. Patterson, .69 ; R. I. Roberts, 66. Total 403. No. 3 Team.- F. C. Hubbard (captain), 70 ; A. Simmonds. 64 ; E. Turton, sent., 67 ; A. Mills, 70 ; C. Miller, 55 ; M. Charlesworth, 54. Total, 380. No. 4 Team.—R. I. Wells (captain), 67; W. A Reid, 65 ; R. W. Roberts. 66; H. V. Cocks, 68; D. Currie, 68; A. Goldsworthy. 44. Total, 378.
