“Rome is the noisiest city of the world. It is not only the motor-cars ; it is the thousands of horses,” said Professor A. Wall (Christchurch) in a lecture on Italy. He added that the streets were all cobbled, and were avery rough. The drivers shouted al! the time at their horses and donkeys. There was no law and order' as far as 'traffic was concerned, and there were Rgo traffic police, but there did rot seem to he any more accidents than in Paris, where the taxis were notoriously bloodthirsty.
